THE PIONEER PROJECT

– THE DATA CENTRE BENCHMARK

LEVERKUSEN
Construction period 9 months | Approx. 2,200 m² GFA | 1.5 MW IT power load

The pioneer: A renowned financial investor participated in the "rising star" of the co-location sector in order to finance investments in infrastructure / for strong growth. Within a very short period of time, the co-location provider has been able to win renowned customers from the finance and insurance sector to rent its data centre spaces. The building project had to meet the highest requirements in terms of availability, IT security and user-specific equipment of the data centre spaces (including raised floors).

CDC awarded the contract for development, planning and delivery of a turnkey data centre to a general contractor. It is the world's first data centre using modular building techniques with a turnkey construction period of 9 months, an initial inventory of 2,200 m² GFA and an IT power load of 1.5 MW. Further, it can be extended during ongoing operation to 4,400 m² GFA and an IT power load of 5 MW and sets standards for the establishment of modular construction in this building class, as well in terms of excellent energy efficiency. The construction costs were a positive factor compared to conventional construction techniques. The competitive advantage achieved and the economic significance of the property are very convincing.
